DIVERSITY..

..at uni this term i am studying 'cultural diversity'..while researching last night came upon these lyrics from 'South Pacific' by Rogers & Hammerstein..thought i'd share..

'you've got to be taught'...

you've got to be taught to hate and fear..

of people whose eyes are oddly made..and people whose skin is a different shade..

before it's too late..before you turn six..seven or eight..

to hate all people your relatives hate..

you've got to be taught...

..not only did this reiterate to me how important it is to accept peoples differences..it reminded me how vital it is to be so careful when raising our children what values and beliefs we pass on to them..we need to be sure that they are accepting of others and willing to learn about other peoples backgrounds..and that what we may see as totally different from us on the outside may turn out to be so similar on the inside..

cultural diversity is part of our society and its so important to learn how to acknowledge similarities and embrace difference..

as culture and values are taught to us from an early age..we must educate this next generation to be tolerant towards others 'different' from themselves..
different isn't a bad thing..it's just different x
